Introduction

AllStarLink, Inc. is a non-profit amateur radio organization dedicated to supporting the radio community. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the limited information we collect. This policy explains what data we store, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

We collect and store only the information necessary to provide our services, track use for compliance with our terms of service, and to validate identity as a properly-licensed amateur radio operator. This includes:

  • Your name and callsign
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • An account username and password
  • Email address
  • A copy of your amateur radio license or license-equivalent document to prove you hold a valid amateur license recognized by a proper governmental authority. Copies of licenses are used only to validate the account and are automatically deleted within 30 days of upload.
  • Information you enter in the Portal about your accounts, servers, and nodes
  • Any incidental information you provide to the ASL Helpdesk, within the AllStarLink Community, or other systems
  • IP addresses, protocol ports, hostnames, and usage of hosts and nodes connecting to the AllStarLink servers and services
  • Login and site usage logs
  • Cookies needed to operate the site, such as session, login-security, and registration cookies, and a cookie that varies how the donation button is displayed. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect or store:

  • Payment information (directly, see Donorbox below)
  • Government documents other than an official copy of your amateur radio license issued by the appropriate government body or agency. Such documents, if incorrectly provided during account sign-up or validation, will be automatically deleted within 30 days of upload.

The information we collect is used solely to:

  • Provide access to our services
  • Troubleshoot access to our systems and services
  • Communicate organizational updates or service notices
  • Maintain membership/user records
  • Enforce terms of service conditions
  • Track performance and security of AllStarLink services and sites

How We Publish Your Information

Your information may be publicly accessible under the following circumstances:

  • Callsigns are required information to demonstrate ownership of accounts, servers, nodes, and other applications connected to the AllStarLink network. For example, but not limited to, node directory information found on www.allstarlink.org or stats.allstarlink.org.
  • Callsigns, when held by users, are required information for AllStarLink services to track compliance with terms of service and to support users. For example, but not limited to, the Discourse forum at community.allstarlink.org and the Helpdesk at helpdesk.allstarlink.org.
  • Community forum posts, which are published under users' callsigns or, for unlicensed participants, their first and last names
  • IP addresses, ports, and usage time information are published in lookup and directory services that anyone can query.
  • Information you voluntarily supply about Servers, Nodes, and Applications, such as locations and descriptions

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your information, or share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers listed below, where it is public by design (see above), where the law requires it, or where necessary to investigate abuse or protect the security of the AllStarLink network.

Third-Party Services

To operate our services, we rely on trusted third-party providers. These providers may process limited technical data (such as IP addresses or submitted forms) to deliver functionality and security. Additionally, you may choose to provide additional information to a third party such as when providing a donation.

We encourage you to review the policies for our trusted third parties:

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to safeguard your information against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. If a data breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of information we hold about you
  • Request corrections to your account details. Changes to your name or callsign must be accompanied by appropriate documentation, such as a copy of your updated license.
  • Request deletion of your account information with the understanding that with such deletion, you will no longer be able to use the AllStarLink services. We may keep your callsign, certain logging information and records of Terms of Service enforcement after deletion, and posts you made to community services may remain.

To exercise these rights, contact us at helpdesk@allstarlink.org.

Children's Privacy

To comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), AllStarLink accounts are not available to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our registration process asks each registrant's age and does not accept registrations from children under 13.

Amateur radio licenses are available to operators of any age. A parent or legal guardian who holds an AllStarLink account may register and manage nodes under the callsign of a licensed child in their care. In that case, the account and all information associated with it belong to the parent or guardian, and the child's callsign is provided by the parent or guardian rather than collected from the child. The child's callsign will appear publicly as described above, as it already does in government license databases. The parent or guardian is responsible for the account and must not allow the child to use it, or to use our community services, directly.

If we learn that we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13, we will delete it and close the account. A parent or guardian who believes this has happened may contact us at helpdesk@allstarlink.org.

Minors aged 13 to 17 should use AllStarLink with the knowledge and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

Users Not Located Within the United States

AllStarLink, Inc. is based in the United States, and information is processed and stored in the US. By using our services from outside the US, you understand your information will be transferred to the US.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect organizational or legal changes. Updates will be posted on our website with a revised effective date.
